Listen To "Origami Vinyl's Coup e'etat" on Moheak.com!!

Fri, 05/04/2012 - 6:48pm
Tell all your friends, WE'RE ON THE RADIO! Every Sunday at 3pm, starting this Sunday May 6, Neil will be hosting "Origami Vinyl's Coup e'etat" on Moheak.com, which is a strong up-and-coming online radio station based in our very own city, Los Angeles. For those that do not speak French and are sitting there perplexed because you do not know what coup e'etat means, do not worry my loves I will explain. The premise of your new favorite radio show will be simple, glorious, and fun--for one hour on Sundays, bands will perform two acoustic songs in the studio as well as play some of their current favorite songs and songs that have influenced their music, hence the "takeover" idea. We all know how influential radio, especially alternative programming, is to many artists, industry professionals and really anyone else who cares for the advancement of non-Top 40 music. Moheak radio is the place that incubates and facilitates this type of spirit and we are so thrilled to be working with them so that we can please all your souls with sweet sweet sounds over the air.

Upcoming artists on Origami Vinyl's Coup e'etat:
5/6 - NO (http://www.nomusicfor.me/)
5/13 - Soft Metals (http://capturedtracks.com/artists/softmetals/)
5/20 - FIDLAR (fidlar.tumblr.com)
More TBA!

Tune in this Sunday May 6 at 3pm PDT!!

We Love Father John Misty And So Should You

Fri, 05/04/2012 - 5:37pm
Yep, we're pretty much going to claim bragging rights with this one. Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty performed in the OV loft January 9, 2011--now more than a year later, his debut album, Fear Fun, is gaining much praise and we love it!! You might also recognize J Tillman as the former drummer of Fleet Foxes (which he decided to leave as he pursued his solo ventures) from 2008-2011, but what you might not know is that he has released solo recordings and even toured since the early 2000's. Now with the backing of Sub Pop records, Father John Misty is playfully seducing ears and eyes on the screens of TV's everywhere when he performed on David Letterman a few days ago. He is performing tonight at Los Angeles' very own Natural History Museum for the First Fridays series! If that album artwork alone is not enough for you to take a listen, then you should definitely look at his performance in the OV loft:

SO AWESOME. Since you are going to want more, check out the music video for Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings which features Aubrey Plaza (for all you Parks & Rec fanatics)

His first EP "Le Couturier" is a tribute to the music of the 70's and features samples of : Eloy, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Bob Seger, Laurie Anderson, Amon Düül, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. Le Couturier released his newest EP "Songs about Redneck Innocence" back in March and is available to download for free on his Bandcamp.

TONIGHT: Carina Round in-store 7pm

In-store in-store in-store!! Come on down to your local Origami Vinyl TONIGHT for a free all-ages performance by Carina Round! The show is going on at 7pm sharp!
Carina Round has carved a singular path in music with her inimitable voice and stirringly varied compositions. Her uncompromising vision and thrilling versatility has garnered an immensely passionate fan base including a myriad of highly regarded musicians.  Hailing from England, Carina had an innate determination and passion for music from an early age, which led her to record and self-release her first two albums, ‘First Blood Mystery’ and ‘The Disconnection’ (later re-released on Interscope). The former shaped by erratic yet engaging sounds drawing from her love of legends Patti Smith, Tom Waits and Jeff Buckley. The latter took those influences into much more powerful and personal realms. Carina’s new album, “Tigermending,” is being released May 1st 2012 through her label Dehisce* and distributed through The Orchard. Produced with Grammy nominated writer Dan Burns, Carina collaborated with some notable champions including the legendary Dave Stewart, Brian Eno, and Smashing Pumpkins’ front man Billy Corgan.  She released ‘The Last Time’single featuring Sierra Swan along with a Puscifer remix of ‘Girl and the Ghost' on Limited Edition 7” Vinyl at the end of last year.
So we'll see you tonight at 7pm! Have a great day....
